چکیده

Recently potent combination antiviral therapies, which consist of reverse transcriptase inhibitor (RTI) drugs and protease inhibitor (PI) drugs, can rapidly suppress HIV below the limit of detection. Two phases of plasma viral decay after initiation of treatment were observed from clinical studies. Some researchers have suggested that the viral decay rates may reeect the potency (eecacy) of antiviral therapies. In this paper we model the eeect of RTI drugs and PI drugs as inhibition rates of cell infection and infectious virus production, respectively, based on the biological mechanisms of these two diierent types of drugs. Through rigorous mathematical derivation, we show that the two viral decay rates are monotone functions of the treatment eeects of these antiviral therapies. Approximation formulas for the relationships between viral decay rates and treatment eeects are constructed. Computer simulations show that the approximation formulas approximate the true values very well. These formulas may be used to study what factors really aaect the viral decay rates. The results in this paper provide a theoretical justiication for using both viral decay rates for evaluation of treatment eecacy of antiviral therapies.

A mathematical model for induction hardening including mechanical e ects

We investigate a mathematical model for induction hardening of steel. It accounts for electromagnetic e ects that lead to the heating of the workpiece as well as thermomechanical e ects that cause the hardening of the workpiece. The new contribution of this paper is that we put a special emphasis on the thermomechanical e ects caused by the phase transitions. We take care of e ects like transfo...

Sodium Valproate-Induced Potentiation of Antiherpetic Effect of Acyclovir

Background: Sodium valproate (VPA), an anticonvalsant drug, has been reported to stimulate viral replication.  A combination therapy with VPA and acyclovir (ACV) is used for the treatment of herpesvirus encephalitis, the commonest sporadic encephalitis of viral origin. Objective: To determine a possible interaction between VPA and ACV leading to a modification of antiviral activity of ACV. Meth...

Induction of antiviral factors by IFN-α 2a is time and dose dependent

Background and Aims: Interferon alpha is an effective cytokine in viral infections, where it has various roles in immune function. The use of this antiviral agent in the treatment of viral infections and even cancers is common, although, the beneficial effects of this antiviral agent in high doses can be associated with side effects that limit its use. In this project, we tried to investigate t...

Modeling the global transmission of antiviral‐resistant influenza viruses

BACKGROUND The mutations that confer resistance to antiviral agents are thought to be detrimental, or at best neutral, to influenza virus fitness. The fact that resistant influenza strains can circulate and sometimes replace sensitive strains is of great public health concern. OBJECTIVES We used mathematical modeling to test various hypotheses about the transmission of antiviral-resistant inf...
